What Informs Your Work?

Topo's clothing design is informed by the rugged beauty of the Ranch's landscape and the raw materials that setting evokes; wood, rock, steel, earth. It goes back to the pioneers resourcefulness and a sustainable relationship with natural resources; you can see it in Frank Lloyd Wright's organic architecture and hear it in the early folk music of Woody Guthrie. Today we see it in the dynamic intersection of raw materials and art in Richard Serra's exhibition "Richard Serra Sculpture: Forty Years" at New York's Museum of Modern Art.

Hey AJ,

One thing I forgot to mention were Deise's sculptures. It's amazing what he does with steel. I can only hope that some day our clothes will be that durable and yet so fluid.
